Formed in Akron, OH in 2001 by childhood friends Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums), the Black Keys took a long and winding route to fame. Through most of their first decade of existence, they took an aggressively lo-fi and DIY approach to their music, recording in basements and self-producing their albums while building a fervent fanbase through constant tours of smaller markets and intimate venues. In 2010, after five albums and close to a decade on the road, they released Brothers. Fronted by the lead single "Tighten Up," it announced their arrival into the big leagues — and eventual earned a pair of Platinum certifications. They followed that up in 2011 with El Camino, their biggest hit to date and perhaps their signature statement as a band. Featuring the singles "Gold on the Ceiling," "Little Black Submarines," and "Lonely Boy," it became a hit in countries around the globe, and set them up for superstardom.
Auerbach and Carney decided to go on hiatus following the release of 2014's Turn Blue, though, performing their last concert together at the 2015 Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco. Until now, that is, as they're set to release their first new album in half a decade, and are teaming up for an epic new comeback tour!
