Adapted from the iconic Whoopi Goldberg vehicle from 1992, Sister Act follows lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier, 1978's Lady Fabulous of Philadelphia, as she flees to the cash-strapped Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith after her mobbed-up boyfriend commits a murder and makes her a witness.  At first annoyed by the convent's quiet conservativism, she soon warms to the nuns' humanity and dedication to their community — and begins to reinvigorate their congregation through her magnetism and diva pipes.  But that begins to attract the attention of people who'd rather see her dead than testify against them, setting up a final showdown with everything on the line.
