Formed in 1999, The National rose from the Cincinnati and Brooklyn indie scenes to become one of the most respected rock bands of their generation. Their early run on Beggars Banquet and 4AD - Alligator, Boxer, High Violet, Trouble Will Find Me - drew deserved comparisons to Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, and Tindersticks while staking out a sound that was unmistakably their own. Later releases including Sleep Well Beast, I Am Easy to Find, First Two Pages of Frankenstein, and Laugh Track expanded the palette with collaborations from Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Bon Iver, and others, all anchored by Berningers literary baritone and the twin guitar work of Aaron and Bryce Dessner. The band has headlined Madison Square Garden, Forest Hills Stadium, the Greek Theatre, and Glastonbury, and built festivals of their own including Eaux Claires and Homecoming.
