Eric Church is one of those guys who's got music in his blood.  The son of a furniture executive, Church grew up in semi-rural North Carolina, and was playing the guitar in covers bands in high school.  After graduating with a degree in marketing from Appalachian State, he became engaged to a Spanish teacher in the town of Lenoir, who urged him to give up music and settle down.  But Church didn't want to let go of his dream, so when the relationship ended, he headed out to Nashville with financial backing from his father and a dream to write and perform his own unique brand of country music.

After initially breaking in as a songwriter for hire, Church scored an audition for Capitol Nashville and began working with producer Jay Joyce, a partnership that led to his debut album, Sinners Like Me, in 2006.  Carolina followed in 2009, but it was 2011's Chief — which debuted at the top spot on Billboard's country charts — that announced his ascension to the top ranks of country stardom.  Since then, he's scored two more #1 albums and a pair of Platinum certifications, plus tons of hit singles.  And he's also established himself as one of the most talented and popular live performers in the genre, regularly packing the biggest venues with his marathon performances.
