About Social Distortion

Formed in Fullerton, California, in 1978, Social Distortion is the creation of frontman Mike Ness, whose gravelly voice and unflinching songwriting have anchored the band through nearly five decades of punk rock, rockabilly, and country-tinged Americana. Social D emerged from the Southern California punk scene alongside bands like Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, but always stood apart thanks to Ness’s willingness to draw from Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and the Rolling Stones alongside the Ramones and the Clash. Their 1990 self-titled album broke them into the mainstream with “Ball and Chain” and “Story of My Life,” while subsequent releases like Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell (1992), White Light, White Heat, White Trash (1996), and Sex, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll (2004) cemented their status as punk rock lifers with a loyal, multigenerational following.

Born to Kill — The New Album

The new album Born to Kill, arriving May 8, 2026, is Social Distortion’s first LP since Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes in 2011 — a gap of 15 years. The album was co-produced by Ness and Dave Sardy and features 11 tracks including guest appearances from Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams. The cover art is a collaboration between Ness and artist Shepard Fairey. The title track has already been released to critical acclaim, signaling that the long wait has been worth it. For a band that has survived lineup changes, personal struggles, and Ness’s own battle with tonsil cancer in 2023, Born to Kill represents both a creative comeback and a personal triumph.

2026 North American Tour Details

The 2026 tour launches August 25 in Phoenix and runs through October 3 in San Diego, visiting major cities including Austin, Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn (two nights), Toronto, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Reno, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Support comes from legendary punk act Descendents and Australian garage-punks The Chats, making this one of the strongest punk tour lineups of the year. Prior to the North American run, Social D will play the Underground Garage Cruise in April and UK/European dates in June and July.
