The Red Hot Chili Peppers formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and spent the following decade building a cult following through explosive live shows and a sound that nobody else was making -- part funk, part punk, part stadium rock. Their 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik was their commercial breakthrough, producing Under the Bridge and Give It Away and selling over 13 million copies worldwide. A series of beloved albums followed -- Californication in 1999, By the Way in 2002, and Stadium Arcadium in 2006 -- each adding to a catalog that spans multiple generations of rock fans. The band took a break after 2016 before returning with Frusciante and releasing the double album Unlimited Love in 2022 and Return of the Dream Canteen later that year.
